Large-Diaphragm Condenser Performance for Vocals, Instruments, and Studio Recording

Axis is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone built around a 34 mm gold-sputtered capsule, discrete Class A FET electronics, and a transformer-coupled balanced output.

With low self-noise, high sensitivity, and 136 dB maximum SPL capability, Axis is designed as a versatile studio microphone for vocals, acoustic instruments, percussion, guitar cabinets, piano, overheads, broadcast, and general recording.

Build your setup with Fluid Audio home recording gear, including the SRI-2 USB audio interface for connecting your microphone to your recording system.

Large-Diaphragm Architecture

The Signal Path Behind Axis

The capsule, electronics, output stage, and housing are designed as one recording system. Here is what each part contributes to the microphone's performance and day-to-day studio use.

Capture

The 34 mm gold-sputtered diaphragm provides the large-format sensitivity and transient detail expected from a studio condenser.

Low-Noise Electronics

A discrete Class A FET circuit keeps the internal signal path simple and supports the microphone's 16 dBA equivalent noise figure.

Balanced Output Stage

The transformer-coupled balanced output is designed to interface cleanly with standard studio microphone preamps over XLR.

Built for Daily Use

The solid brass body, included shock mount, pop filter, hard case, and 5 meter cable make Axis ready for regular studio work.

One Mic, Many Sources

Designed as an All-Round Studio Workhorse

Axis is voiced and specified to cover a wide range of recording duties. The combination of a cardioid pattern, low self-noise, high SPL capability, and large-diaphragm character makes it useful on both delicate and powerful sources.

Vocals and voice Large-diaphragm sensitivity and a full-range response make Axis well suited to lead vocals, backing vocals, voiceover, and broadcast.

Acoustic instruments Useful detail and sensitivity for acoustic guitar, piano, strings, and other naturally dynamic sources.

Drums and percussion 136 dB SPL capability makes Axis practical for overheads, percussion, room capture, and other louder sources.

Amplified instruments Cardioid directivity and high headroom also make it a useful option in front of guitar cabinets and other amplified sources.

Balanced Sound with Air and Presence

Detailed Enough for Critical Recording, Flexible Enough for Everyday Studio Use

Recording Magazine described Axis as balancing accurate, clean reproduction with a noticeable upper-mid presence and an airy top end, while still maintaining useful body on vocals and acoustic instruments.

That combination is what makes Axis useful as a general-purpose condenser rather than a microphone that only excels on one narrow type of source.
